College is expensive especially if you attend the traditional four year, big name universities. You have the cost of books, room and board, tuition, and all sorts of hidden fees. Many students are opting out of the traditional college experience for elearners programs that offer the same college degrees but at a fraction of the cost. However, even though online education program are more affordable, they are not free. For many students, this means that even online education programs may not be an option. While most students know financial aid is available for traditional college students, many potential online education students are usually unaware that financial aid exists for them too. They just need to know where to look.

First, anyone interested in financial aid for online education courses needs to contact the online education program’s financial aid office. This office specializes in helping potential students find the scholarships, grants, and loan that they will need to pay for their online education. The financial aid office has all the forms and most importantly all of the deadlines for applying for financial aid. Students who do not meet financial aid deadlines do no get the much needed financial aid.

Secondly, the process for applying for financial aid is the same for online education programs as it is for traditional college programs. The only difference is online education student are not always taking advantage of the financial aid available so it goes unclaimed. The process begins with the FAFSA forms which the student fills in with relevant tax information. After the FAFSA is submitted, the student will receive an award letter detailing the financial aid received for his or her online education. With financial aid, an online education does not have burden the student if he or she knows where to get it.
