Pursuing higher education can help put you on the path toward achieving your professional aspirations and personal goals, yet choosing the right school for you involves weighing a number of competing factors.

Location
Have you always dreamed of moving to the big city? Or are you seeking the classic leafy college campus? Location is a major factor in any higher education decision.

Will the college area offer you the possibility for internships in your field? For hospitality students, easy access to high traffic tourist areas would add an alluring appeal for a school in or near an urban center. Meanwhile, other students and parents may prefer the bucolic tranquility and safety of a secluded liberal arts campus where the students while away their days reading on the green.

For students who would prefer to live at home and save on room and board costs, finding a local school with easy transportation options would be most appealing. Affordable housing in the vicinity of the campus makes off-campus housing especially appealing to others looking to cut down costs and for the independence of living with friends.

Full-Time or Part-Time
When applying to colleges and universities, you should consider whether you would like to enroll as a full or part time student.

For those returning students who have already begun their careers and would like to continue working during their higher education years, a part-time enrollment may be beneficial. Part-time enrollment is also particularly suited to those with children or other dependents, and those who will need a bit more flexibility in their schedules.

Full-time enrollment also has its unique benefits, including eligibility for a number of scholarships, fellowships and grants. School services including health insurance coverage may vary depending on your enrollment status so be sure to check with each school’s bursar and student information centers before you make your decision!

In Case of Emergency

You can’t put a price on education. Nevertheless, higher education can be a costly and prohibitively expensive investment. While applying to schools, assess your own financial position and take into account any possible funds or assets you or your family have set aside for college. Talk with college counselors regarding the abundance of scholarships available, as well as discussing financial aid options you which you may qualify for.

College applications and deposits add up. This could eat up most of your budget, and this could be very troublesome in times of emergency. In times of immediate need, you can consider other options for financial support.

If you are employed and have a valid checking account, you can also consider payday advance loans in case you need quick money for emergencies. These short term loans can give you access to cash the very next business day and can either be paid back in full from the next paycheck or in installments to ease the expense of the college admissions process.

Choosing a course of study at a four-year college no longer means that your entire education will take place on that particular campus. Colleges are constantly trying to find more ways to attract students from all over the country and beyond. The opportunity to further your studies by completing a semester or more in Europe is now available at many colleges throughout the country. A student may want to go abroad for their course of study, or even choose a course of study due to a particular destination.

Imagine studying marine sciences in the Caribbean, with a minor in scuba diving. A student can study journalism in Salamanca, Spain, in between bull fights of course.

Image via Wikipedia

Communication majors at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey can take advantage of the college’s Wroxton Program in Oxfordshire, England. London studies also include many business and finance majors. Miami University has a campus in Luxembourg where students can study for a semester, or an academic year if they choose, with different courses of study to choose from. Colleges across the country are opening adjunct campuses abroad, or partnering with well-known universities and colleges to offer the Europe experience to their students here in the United States.

The chance to study abroad is there, the price tag is another story. Student loans may cover the cost of tuition, there are scholarships available, and studying abroad can be done on a tight budget. The travel cost can be a burden. Finding ways to travel more economically will help defray the costs of an education abroad. Knowing exactly where you want to go and what you want to study will get you started. If you are at Miami University and want to study in Luxembourg, keep an eye out for cheap Miami flights is a good idea. The Internet’s reach is vast and this resource is used to constantly keep up on where you can save money on air travel. Keep track of your frequent flyer miles and you may even be able to fly a friend over to see your “home away from home” in Europe.

A successful semester abroad is in the planning. Make sure you are in the right course of study and in the right city. Choosing a course of study just to see the Queen of England is a mistake. You have to make the right choice. There is a lot of information out there. A semester or a year in another country can be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Just make sure you take something away from it.

Golden beaches line the shores of this Indian Ocean island. Sri Lanka may be a small teardrop island, but it has a lot to offer. Here’s a look at the most exciting things about Sri Lanka.

Image via Wikipedia

Beaches

Sri Lanka has miles of beaches. The tropical climate and year-round warm weather makes Sri Lanka an ideal beach vacation destination. One of the best beaches of note is Nilaveli Beach. This natural harbor offers fantastic scuba diving. The golden sand and swaying palm trees provide a picturesque island getaway.

If you prefer to stay in a resort, Unawatuna Beach features several high-end hotels. Its natural beauty is a big draw to visitors, and it is also one of the best scuba diving locations in Sri Lanka.

Spas

The people of this region practice a form of alternative medicine called Ayurveda. Ayurvedic medicine focuses on balancing the three elemental energies of the body to encourage health and longevity. Herbal remedies, steam baths and massage are among the practices of Ayurvedic medicine. This holistic approach has become popular in Sri Lanken spas, making them world-famous.

Saman Villas in Bentota is a popular resort. This small, private resort sits between two beaches, giving travelers many opportunities for sun and sand. The resort was recently refurbished, and now offers the latest and greatest amenities to make your stay a trip to paradise.

History

With human settlements dating all the way back to the Paleolithic era, Sri Lanka is rich in history. This history is written in the structures that remain. Sri Lanka is home to Sigiriya, which has been called the Eighth Wonder of the World. This rock fortress is surrounded by gardens, reservoirs and aqueducts. Built in the 5th century, the rock surface of the palace is decorated with frescos that add to the peculiarity and wonder of the “Fortress in the Sky.” This exquisite example of early architecture and craftsmanship is something you won’t want to miss.

Image via Wikipedia

Another historic must-see in Sri Lanka comes in the form of festivals. Living vessels of history, these festivals show the vibrancy of the culture in this region. Sinhalese, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim and Tamil peoples all make up the diverse population of Sri Lanka, and each culture hosts festivals celebrating unique cultural events and holidays. If you visit Sri Lanka in July or August, fire dances, whip dances and decorated elephants celebrate Esala Perahera, a Buddhist festival. This festival is a series of rituals surrounding the Buddha’s Tooth Relic.

If you are looking for a unique travel destination, consider the fascinating isle of Sri Lanka. Look for holiday deals on your trip, and be sure to visit all the remarkable beaches, spas and historic sites that Sri Lanka has to offer.
